Curlin To Mischief’s Half Brother, Mendelssohn, Wins Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf


Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Champion, Mendelssohn, being led into the winners circle

Mendelssohn, the half brother to Climax Stallion, Curlin To Mischief, won the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf on Friday in style.

The 2-year-old son of Scat Daddy out of 2016 Broodmare of the Year, Leslie’s Lady, carried high hopes for owners Susan Magnier, Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor, who purchased the sale topper for $3 million out of the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling sale. After a second place finish in his previous start in the Group 1 Dewhurst, trainer Aiden O’Brein felt confident in the young colt heading into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.

Mendelssohn’s Breeders’ Cup victory added to the dominance behind the family broodmare of the year, Leslie’s Lady, has produced. Now with two Breeders’ Cup winners including Hall of Famer, Beholder, and Mendelssohn, and two promising stallions, Curlin To Mischief and Into Mischief, the future looks bright for this outstanding family.
