Mendelssohn, half-brother to Climax Stallion, Curlin to Mischief, destroyed the field to win the UAE derby by 18 ½-lengths.
This impressive victory adds to the greatness achieved by his famous siblings, Hall of Fame mare, Beholder, as well as super-sire, Into Mischief.
The 3-year-old colt by Scat Daddy, out of 2016 Broodmare of the Year, Leslie’s Lady, proved the dirt surface was no challenge for him. Mendelssohn not only took to the dirt well, he also finished the UAE derby in record time, beating previous UAE derby winner, Thunder Snow’s time by two seconds.
Mendelssohn’s UAE Derby score sets him up as a top contender to make a run for the roses under the Twin Spires in May.
